The part of Marine boot camp that is considered to be the hardest will depend on the individual.
Some people have trouble with the shock of adjusting to an entirely new environment, far from family and friends, where they are awakened early, expected to move quickly, and must learn to swallow their self-centered pride, take orders, and become disciplined.
Other people find the physical rigors of boot camp to be the most daunting. For instance, climbing Mount Mother----er or putting up with insects such as sand fleas are infamous trials in the Marines.
For a person who is afraid of heights, rappelling could be an arduous task both physically and emotionally, etc.
Many recruits report that learning to function when exposed to chemicals such as tear gas was the most dreaded part of boot camp.
