I need a letter asking for leniency before the judge sentences my son my son was given a deal to go to boot camp for 4 months instead of going to jail for 4 years on a buglary charge. i want to write a letter to the judge to consider sending him to a rehab center for 1 month instead of going to boot camp for 4 months. he needs to be in a rehab center and not boot camp, because he does drugs. he has an apartment, two little boys, and a wife to take care of. i also need him at work since he works at my company too. |

The judge will not take letters from the family. This would be in violation of law. Best thing not to cause your son more harm is respect the agreement and have your son go to the boot camp - it is better than the 4 years in prison, which they are trying to prevent him from having to go to. I can assure you they have taken into account his family - thats why he isn't going to prison - and working at your computer company is the least of thier concern. As for drug treatment - I can assure you - going to boot camp will deal with that and I am sure once he is out, his probation will require some sort of drug treatment.

It is certainly not a vilation of the law to write a letter to the judge on your sons behalf as was stated in the answer above. I wrote several letters to my sons Judge prior to sentencing at our lawyers recomendation. The judge was very fair and did take all things into consideration including my letter. I have never heard of this being illegal. As a matter of fact, there are several templates all over the internet for writing such letters. In terms of the court ordering rehabilitation as a term of probation, an affective program is not always available and may be the responsibility of the defendent and/or family to seek that help. Suggest researching the internet for sample letters. Address it to The Honorable Judge (Judges Name), Judges address, follwed by the Docket number, Then in the Salutation: Your Honor,
