Can I get any benefits from the military

I enlisted in Minnesota army national guard and was going to guard for nine months waiting to go to boot camp. When i went to the process center they said I was 5lbs over weight and sent me home. I went back a second time thinking I should make it and I was turned away again as I was 2lbs over weight. this time they discharged me. it was, according to them, a honorable discharge. I'm just wondering if I am eligibly for VA hospital or any other benefits through the military.

If they still assign a discharge code on the discharge you need to find out what it means. Thats easy, just go to the VA office with all your discharge papers and ask

Usually, to get any kind of veteran benefits you must be a veteran. To qualify as a veteran you must serve at least 2 years. If you served your two years it will depend on your discharge. All discharges receive benefits but as the discharge status gets worse your benefits get cut drastically. The first thing you must do is find what your discharge is. If it is honorable or mediacl discharge then you are qualified for all benefits.

VA benefits for reservists are allowed after serving 180 days on active duty, whether by drill time or actual recall. If you still want to go active duty, lose the two pounds and try to go active again. Go to usmilitary.about.com/od/theorderlyroom/l/blcode3.h tm to check your reenlistment code. Remember once you lose the weight and you meet all other requirements, waivers can be granted to change a code.

I can't try to get back in because it was 20years ago when I tried to enlist. and the reason I didn't just lose the 2lbs is because I tried to sign a waiver but they wouln't let me and I figured if they couldn't let me in for two pounds they must not have needed people too bad.

I believe you are a little too late to obtain any benefits because education benefits usually expire after 10 years. Since you do not have any service related injuries you will not qualify for healthcare.

The reserves and National guard do not get military benefits. as the are only training one weekend a month and 2 weeks a year if they are injured while on duty then they can utilize the VA but even then its harder to get them seen because of the Active duty soldiers.
